Abdel Fattah al-Sissi, the Minister of Defence and head of the Supreme Council for Armed Forces who appeared in the scene for the first time since start of the crisis, called on figures of political and media scenes, besides others to attend the meeting.

Despite an initial denial by the presidency that they were aware of the call, the official page of the Armed Forces on Facebook said President Mohammad Mursi will attend the meeting.

A high level military official told independent Al-Masri al-Yawm that the meeting was called amid fears that matters may get out of hand in particular as groups of protestors have already resorted to violence.

The judges have announced that 90 per cent of them reject supervision of the referendum.

Also today, a court in Cairo refused to oversee a case referred by the prosecutor general who was appointed by Mursi a few days ago.

The judge said he does not acknowledge the new prosecutor general as legitimate and hence should not review a case upon his request.

Meanwhile in Suez, from which the first deaths of the revolution in 2011 were reported, citizens have removed the Muslim Brotherhood governor and formed a council to take care of the affairs until a new non-Muslim Brotherhood figure is appointed.

In lower Egypt, buses belonging to the Freedom and Justice Party were attacked on their way from Sharqiya to Cairo to participate in demonstrations supporting President Mohamed Morsy, injuring six.

The attackers targeted the buses with stones and forced them to stop before attacking the passengers.

The secretary general of the FJP in Sharqiya Ahmed Shehata said the passengers were "surprised by a group of thugs" on the Belbais-Cairo desert road, near Salam City.
