Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan has accepted the proposal of Maharashtra Forest Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar to be the tiger ambassador of the state.

To promote eco tourism, especially tiger tourism in Maharashtra, Mungantiwar had requested Bachchan to represent the state as its tiger ambassador.

The 72-year-old actor has communicated his consent to Mungantiwar today through a letter.

"I wish to accept your kind offer to render my services towards the state government's initiative for tiger conservation. Kindly treat this letter as my consent to represent the state as tiger ambassador," Bachchan wrote.

Mungantiwar had written letter to Bachchan on July 29 on the occasion of World Tiger Day.

"Considering the popularity and legendary image of Bachchan, he was an automatic choice to be appointed as tiger ambassador which will be instrumental in bringing awareness among the citizen of the state towards protection and preservation of tigers," Mungantiwar said.

I am confident that involvement of citizens in the save tiger movement will convert it into a popular movement with the help of Amitabh Bachchan, he added.
