Three cows died today after being exposed to ammonia gas leak at the district hospital here, which also caused breathing problems to patients and the residents of the area.

According to Syed Mohammed, Chief Medical Officer, the hospital had put two cylinders into a huge water tank with line in order to dissolve the ammonia gas present inside them following an earlier leak a few days ago.

One of the workers at the hospital was removing the cylinders from the tank fearing theft when the residual gas present in it leaked and caused the incident, he said.

The CMO said the three cows that were tied near the water tank died due to the freak incident.

The hospital had witnessed a similar gas leak incident recently wherein its patients had to flee and sleep in the open.

Mohammed said a probe has been ordered to identify the worker who committed the folly.
