Ammunition carrying wagons derail in MP

Five wagons of a goods train carrying ammunition went off the tracks near here, disrupting traffic on the busy Katni-Itarsi section of West Central Railways (WCR), an official said.

The wagons were stocked with ammunition from Ordnance Factory Khamaria (OFK) located near here.

"Five wagons of a goods train carrying ammunition from OFK to Amla in Madhya Pradesh's Betul district derailed near Adhartal area this evening," WCR Jabalpur Division Public Relations Officer K K Dubey told PTI.

Top Railway officials rushed to the spot after getting information about the mishap and are supervising the track restoration and related works, he said.
 

Traffic on the disrupted route is likely to be restored by late tonight, Dubey said, adding the mishap affected the schedule of seven passenger trains.

On cause of the accident, he said the WCR's first priority is to restore the traffic after which an inquiry will follow.
