'Amra Bangali' today strongly criticised the renewed agitation for Gorkhaland state by the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) in Darjeeling on the lines of Telangana, while demanding immediate arrest of GJM Chief Bimal Gurung and ban on his organisation.

Describing the agitation as "contrary to the interest of the state and carried out at the behest of the centre", Amra Bangali Central Secretary Shankar Gangopadhyay in a statement said that they would never allow any such move to divide the state by any organisation.

In a fax messages to President Pranab Mukherjee and Union Home minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, Gangopadhyay has placed his party demands urging immediate halt to such an agitation.

He also condemned the attack on Bengali nationals and more in particular pressure on students and tourists in the Darjeeling hills by the GJM supporters in the name of agitation.

Gangopadhyay also criticised the Mamata Banerjee Government for GTA agreement, while described it as 'undemocratic and against the interest of the nation'.

The organisation also organised a procession at Siliguri protesting the move by GJM to bifurcate the state.
