Amritsar boils at 46 deg C; intense heat wave sweeps Pb,

Amritsar today boiled at 46 degrees Celsius, the highest in Punjab and Haryana, states which are reeling under an intense heat wave.

UT Chandigarh, the joint capital of the two states, baked at 43 degrees Celsius, four degrees above normal, as per a MeT department report.

In Punjab, Ludhiana, the industrial hub of the state, recorded a maximum of 44.5 degrees Celsius while Patiala sizzled at 44.8 degree Celsius, five degrees above normal.

In Haryana, Hisar was the hottest place recording 44.2 degrees Celsius while Karnal and Ambala recorded an identical maximum of 43.8 degrees Celsius, up to five degrees above normal.
 

The MeT department has predicted that the heat wave is likely to continue for the next 24 hours in Punjab and Haryana.
