The CPI has nominated Daswinder Kaur as its candidate for the bypoll to Amritsar Lok Sabha seat, which fell vacant after sitting MP and Congress state president Amarinder Singh resigned over the Sutlej-Yamuna Link canal issue.
Kaur is a trade union leader and a member of the AITUC general council.
The election will be held on February 4, along with the assembly polls.

The CPI central secretariat appealed to the voters of the constituency to vote for her and send her to the Lok Sabha so that the cause of the downtrodden and the exploited was taken up in all earnestness, CPI general secretary S Sudhakar Reddy said in the statement.
He also stated that other Left parties have also extended their support to her candidature.
Singh had resigned as parliamentarian, protesting against the "injustice" meted out to people of Punjab following a Supreme Court order on Sutlej-Yamuna Link canal water-sharing agreement.
