Amritsar train tragedy: 51 victims' kin statements recorded

The statements of family members of 51 victims of the Amritsar train tragedy on Dusshera have been recorded by Jalandhar Divisional Commissioner B Purushartha, an official said Thursday.

Purushartha had been appointed as a special executive magistrate by the state government to inquire into the Amritsar train incident.

The statements were recorded as a part of the magisterial probe into the train tragedy.

The divisional commissioner also issued a fresh appeal Thursday, asking eyewitnesses or others having any information about the train accident to get their statements recorded with him.

Purushartha, meanwhile, also visited the accident spot along with senior police officers including Deputy Commissioner of Police Amrik Singh Powar and Deputy Commissioner Kamaljeet Singh Sangha.

 

The team also visited the railway gateman's cabin and noticed the speed of the train running on the track.

At least 60 spectators of Dusshera's 'Ravan dahan' were run over on October 19 by a train hurtling through a crowd of revellers which had spilled onto a nearby railway track,

The train was on its way to Amritsar from Jalandharwhen the incident occurred at Joda Phatak here.
