Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy today said the Centre's Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Rural Transformation (AMRUT) would be implemented in nine cities in the state in the first phase.

Addressing a function here for the state-wide launch of the project, which aims at giving a facelift to the infrastructure facilities along with improving basic services provided to households, he said a sum of Rs 587 crore had been earmarked for its implementation.

In the first phase, the project will be implemented in the nine cities of Thiruvananthapuram, Kozhikode, Kannur, Kollam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Guruvayoor, Palakkad and Alappuzha, the Chief Minister said.

In an effort to include more cities under the project, the state minister for urban affairs had held a meeting with the Union Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu recently, he added.
