According to the authorities, the candidates qualified the exam by "impersonating and cheating".

The exam for the engineering course was held on May 20, 2012, and the cases came to light in past three days during the admission process.

Discrepancies were detected in photographs of these candidates through the biometric system introduced by the university recently.

University administration has taken the matter "very seriously" and it will pursue it with the police so as to "set an example for the future", said Vice-Chancellor Zameer Uddin Shah.

"There was no question of succumbing to any sort of pressure in these cases," Shah said.

Over 42,000 applicants took the test on May 20 at 43 different centres across the country for the 365 seats that were up for grabs.
