Shahjad Alam, who is in race for the post of president of AMU students' union, along with students and others entered into an altercation with the staff of a petrol pump near Tasveer Mahal Cinema yesterday, they said.
According to the complaint filed by petrol pump owner, the students smashed the close circuit cameras and some other pieces of furniture after manhandling the staff.
The situation was controlled after arrival of police.
The reason behind the incident was being probed, police said.
AMU Students' Union elections will be held on January 31.
