From poker face to wonder eyes, artist Vijay Kowshik has brought to life nearly all possible human expressions in his new series of sculptures that are part of a new exhibition here.
Titled, Parsing: The Minds Eye, the exhibition which began on January 21, sees the use of phenomena of reflection that were once part of the Physics syllabus in schools, in practical life.
The artworks on display vindicate that they are a product of an exercise of retrospection by the artist, during which he dives deep into his own psyche, to generate the variety of emotions that he has in the form of mind boggling ceramic sculptures.
"The show delves deeper into my mind with expressions thrown from my agitated psyche striving to extract experiences from collective consciousness," the artist says.
While the medium used is ceramic, he says, glass is his main motivation.
"The works juxtapose my inner feelings through the plasticity of the material at high temperatures. The amalgamation evokes a strange quality of thrill and joy in the making, which manifests itself finally in the works," he says.
What is striking about Kowshiks collection is that the sculptures are not merely expressions carved out on conventional looking faces. There is distortion and of various degrees, often indicative of perhaps the agitated inner psyche that the artist speaks about earlier.
The zig-zagging of the light through the sculptures give rise to patterns that are strange, offering a window to watch and experience the algorithms in the mind of the artist which are a joy to experience.
The play of light through glass with refractions and reflections render a strange mysterious quality, the artist says.
The exhibition is set to continue till February 7.
