Several religious and social outfits here have come together to bring citizens on a common platform and engage them in community based activities for the betterment of the city.

The initiative is to help resolve conflicts among communities and restore peace and harmony to the region, Abdul Hakkim of United Jamath, told reporters here today.

The United Jamath, Church of South India, Gurudwara, Hindu religious mutts and social outfits like 'Siruthul', will be part of 'TASK' (Towards A Serene Kovai,) to be launched on Republic Day, on January 26, he said.

When people get together for a common cause like successfully desilting a big tank in the city, which witnessed people from all walks of life cutting across caste, creed and religion, differences can be ironed out significantly by forming such a platform, he said.

The sole objective of TASK is to take responsibility in the areas of environment, hygiene, sanitation and several other aspects which impact the daily lives of the citizens of Coimbatore.

TASK, with a six-member Core Committee, will work in close coordination with the administration and city corporation, and will be inaugurated by Collector, Archana Patnaik, he added.
