Anand Pawar for multi-specialty badminton courts in Mumbai

Former India international Anand Pawar on Thursday emphasised the need to have to multi- specialty badminton courts in the metropolis, which he said, will help aspiring players.

Pawar, along with former player Sanjay Sharma, felicitated the winners of Mumbai leg of 'PNB MetLife Junior Badminton Championship (JBC)-5' here.

Speaking on the occasion, Pawar said, "I feel platforms like these need to burgeon to address the issues of lack of infrastructure, access to professional coaches and the unavailability of right physical training faced in badminton."

"This has become a necessity and not a privilege given the increasing number of talented players in the country. To start off with, we need good multi-facility badminton courts, specially in Mumbai," he said.

 

"Even today, a majority of kids are playing in places equipped with just one or two courts.

"These courts should have gyms and other facilities that will help in imparting the right physical training," added Pawar, who is also the coach of the Pune team in the Premier Badminton League.

Among the JBC winners were Sharan Pillai (boys singles U-15), who defeated Harshil Doshi (15-7; 13-15; 15-7), Nirmitee Gajbhiye (girls singles U-15), who defeated Naishaa Kaur Bhatoye (15-8; 8-15; 15-14).

In the Boys' Singles U-17 category, Siddharth Bhuta emerged victorious after defeating Vinil Mokhade (9-15; 15-5; 15-8), while in the girls Singles U-17 category, Saanvi Mukadam beat Naishaa Kaur Bhatoye (15-8; 15-12) to emerge triumphunt.
