Senior Congress leader Anand Sharma today called on South African President Jacob Zuma and discussed with him political and economic developments across the world besides bilateral issues.
Sharma is in South Africa on the invitation of the African National Congress (ANC) leadership to participate in the commemoration of 105th Anniversary of the party, which took place in Soweto yesterday.
During his meeting with Sharma, who is also the Deputy Leader of the Congress Parliamentary Party, President Zuma emphasised the need to strengthen the BRICS and the South-South Cooperation, a statement said.

Sharma had constructive meetings and free exchange of views with Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa, Secretary General of the ANC Gwede Mantashe besides other senior leaders of the ANC, the statement said.
The Indian National Congress and the African National Congress have a structured exchange of leadership delegations from time to time, the statement said adding both the sides have affirmed to further consolidate the relationship between the two.
The ANC leadership, during his meetings, also acknowledged the historical contribution and the important role played by the India's Congress party in its anti-apartheid struggle.
