The historic Raj Niwas, official residence of the Lieutenant Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, in Port Blair would be thrown open to tourists for the first time for five days, starting tomorrow.

For a period of five days till February 25, people will visit Raj Niwas and see the gardens and other attractions of the historic structure from 3.30 pm to 5.30 pm, a statement from Lt Governor Lt Gen (Retd) A K Singh's office said.

Built by the Britishers in the 1870s, it is an exquisite example of late colonial architecture.

Nestled in the middle of three acres of exquisitely landscaped gardens and lush greenery on a gentle hill slope, Raj Niwas was so far not open to the general public.
