Andhra Pradesh to soon get its new DD Kendra at Vijayawada

Post-bifurcation, Andhra Pradesh is all set to get its Doordarshan Kendra at Vijayawada by the end of this month.

Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar today said a Doordarshan Kendra would be inaugurated at Vijayawada on September 27.

"Now, there be will be two Doordarshan Kendras. One based at Hyderabad for Telangana and another to function from Vijayawada, which is the capital region of Andhra Pradesh.

"It would be inaugurated on September 27, in which Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu would be participating," Javadekar told reporters here.

Asked about the name of the new channel, he said that DD Andhra Pradesh would continue to function as DD Saptagiri, while he has urged the Government of Telangana to suggest a name for DD channel in Telangana.
 

He was speaking on the sidelines of an event to launch AIR News Services Division's free news SMS service in five languages - Hindi, Marathi, Sanskrit, Dogri and Nepali.

Earlier, addressing the gathering at the event, Javadekar said the SMS service was aimed at providing important news to the subscribers in their preferred language on their mobile phones.
