A movie about pro wrestler Andre "The Giant" Roussimoff is being developed by Lion Forge Comics and producers Scott Steindorff and Dylan Russell.

The project is based on an authorised biography that was published last year as a graphic novel, "Andre the Giant: Closer to Heaven," written by Brandon Easton and illustrated by Denis Medri, reported Variety.

"As a lifelong wrestling fan, I can say with conviction that no one was bigger than Andre. His presence and charisma were so powerful, and you could tell there was much more to him under the surface of his ring persona.

"It's been an amazing experience telling that story in the book with Robin's help. With all the spectacle, action, and emotion there on the page, a feature film just made perfect sense," said Lion Forge CEO David Steward II.

Roussimoff is best known for feuding with Hulk Hogan inside the ring, and for playing the gentle giant Fezzik in The Princess Bride outside it. He died of heart failure at 46 in 1993.

His daughter, Robin Christensen-Roussimoff, will serve as a consultant on the film and granted the producers the exclusive rights to "Closer to Heaven," which recounts the wrestler's life from his childhood in France to his rise as a wrestler.
