Anganwadi worker killed in road mishap

A 42-year-old Anganwadi worker was killed and her husband sustained injuries when a van collided against their motorcycle at Tinimuhani Chhack within the limits of Kendrapara Sadar Police Station today, the police said.

The deceased Anganwadi worker has has been identified as Gitanjali Jena (42), wife of Ranjit Kumar Jena, of village Danpur. She was crushed under the rear wheel of the van and died on the spot, the police said.

Her husband Ranjit was rushed to SCB medical college and hospital in Cuttack for treatment.

The couple was on their way to Kendrapara on the motorbike to attend a rally of Anganwadi workers. The Police have sent the body to the government hospital at Kendrapada for autopsy.
 

The Police have also seized the van, but the driver fled the spot, said Padarabind Tripathy, IIC of Kendrapara Sadar Police Station.
