A group of anganwadi workers and helpers today staged a protest at Parliament Street demanding minimum wages and pension.

The demonstrators, under the aegis of the All India Federation of Anganwadi Workers and Helpers (AIFAWH), marched towards Parliament when the budget was being presented.

A senior police officer said the march was stopped in front of the Parliament Street Police station around 1.30 PM, following which the protesters dispersed.

"We have been demanding recognition as workers, a minimum wage of Rs 18,000 per month and social security and pension as recommended by the 45th and 46th Indian Labour Conferences for long," an AIFAWH spokesperson said.
