An Angola-based company has demanded Rs 16 lakh from the family of an Indian employee, who was killed in an explosion, to send the body back to his hometown in Deoria.
Surya Dev Yadav was seriously injured in an explosion while he was working in Best Angola Metal company on November 26 last year. He succumbed to his injuries on December 1.
Since then, Yadav's family in Deoria has been requesting the company to handover the body.
But the company, situated in Angola's capital of Luanda, demanded Rs 16,000 to return the body back as it was 'badly mutilated'.
"The body had been badly mutilated which needs special transportation. Around Rs 16 lakh would be required to transport the body," the company director Vinnu H Kapasi said.
Family members of the victim have written a letter to the President, Prime Minister, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and the District Magistrate (DM) seeking their intervention into the matter.
DM Sharad Kumar Singh said he was aware of the incident and External Affairs Ministry has been requested to take adequate measures.
