Press Trust of India Kolkata
Union Home Secretary designate Anil Goswami today said that he met top officials of the West Bengal government and 'noted' their observations 'on various issues' concerning the state.

"I have noted down the observations of the state and am going to report them to the appropriate authorities on my return to Delhi," Goswami told reporters in reply to a question.

With the state's panchayat elections and the Maoist threat being among the burning issues of the state, Goswami, without giving details, said "I came to listen to the points of view of the state government. I had detailed discussion on various issues."

Asked if deployment of central para-military forces for the panchayat elections was discussed, Goswami replied "I have nothing to add beyond what I said earlier."

Goswami, the OSD under MHA, had yesterday met Governor M K Narayanan and reportedly discussed the demand for central forces by the State Election Commission and Opposition parties.

Chief Secretary Sanjay Mitra, Home Secretary Basudeb Banerjee, DGP Naparajit Mukherjee, Kolkata Police Commissioner Surojit Kar Purokayastha, and ADG (Law and Order) Banibrata Bose were among those present at the hour-long meeting with Goswami.
