The Madras High Court today made the Ministry of Environment and Forest and the Animal Welfare Board parties to a plea for permission to hold cock fights in Coimbatore district.
While making the two authorities parties to the plea made by Veera Vilayattu Sangam of Coimbatore to have their say on it, a bench of Chief Justice Indira Banerjee and Justice M Sundar posted the matter to April 19.
The petitioner had moved the court seeking direction to the police to let them hold cock fights in Coimbatore after they were denied the permission in March 2017 to conduct the event.

But the high court had dismissed the plea and asked the petitioner to make fresh representations to the authorities to seek their permission to hold sporting event on some other convenient date.
Pursuant to the order, the petitioner sought fresh permission to conduct the fight between April 5 and 9, but the police denied the permission again saying that the organisers were holding the cultural event for gambling purpose.
The petitioners further submitted that though they had given an undertaking to police that there would be no gambling and law and order problems, their plea was rejected.
