Residents of the district's Kotwalpur and Jawli villages today held a strong protest against alleged incidents of cow slaughter in the jungles in their area.

According to police sources, villagers erupted in protests following the discovery of tell-tale signs of cow slaughter in the jungles near Kotwalpur in the morning.

Later, reports emerged of similar remains having been found in the jungles near Jawli.

As a large number of locals gathered to protest against the alleged cow slaughter, senior police officials, including SSP Nitin Tiwari, arrived at the spot with adequate forces to prevent any untoward incident.

The villagers' demand was that those behind the cow slaughter should be arrested within two days.

The SSP assured the agitated villagers that the strictest action would be taken against the culprits following which the protesters agreed to disperse.

Police, meanwhile, said they had conducted a post-mortem on the bovine remains and then buried the carcasses.
