The Uttar Pradesh Police today said they had busted an inter-state gang of animal smugglers and arrested two persons who used to work in "connivance" with local cops.

During interrogation, the two, arrested in Allahabad by the Special Task Force, revealed the names of 19 policemen allegedly involved in the racket, a Home Department spokesman said here.

Action would taken against the policemen who were posted in Mirzapur, Fatehpur, Varanasi, Kaushambi and Pratapgarh, he said.

A police constable was injured when the STF chased a truck, carrying cattleheads, to nab the two near the Soraon toll tax, the spokesman said.

The injured constable was admitted to hospital, he said.
