Actress Ann Dowd says she will return to star in dystopian parable "The Handmaid's Tale" in its second season.

The 61-year-old actress, who plays Aunt Lydia, the brutal instructor and guardian of the handmaids, says she does not know what her character will do in the next installment but it will be featured all the same, reports Elle.Com.

"She will be there. I don't know what she will be doing, but she will be there," says Dowd.

The actress, however, says she has an idea how she would want the story to move forward.

"I would love to know the backstory of these human beings. What led Lydia to take a such rigid stance on life? How did she come to that place? I don't think you come into the world that way.

"I think there are relationships and circumstances that affect a person. Did she lose a baby? What happened to her? I would be fascinated to know," she says.

The first season of the Hulu show, which is based on Margaret Atwood's book of the same name, got over where the author ended her novel.

The show's season two will premiere in 2018.
