Oscar-winning actress Anne Hathaway is trying her hands on TV as she has signed on to star on limited series "The Ambassador's Wife", which is based on a newly released novel by Jennifer Steil.

The series circles around an American woman who is kidnapped in Yemen, Middle East. The story is inspired by the author's personal experiences as the wife of the British Ambassador to Yemen.

Hathaway, 32, is set to play the central character, Miranda, a bohemian artist who falls in love with Finn, the British ambassador to an Arab country.

She finds herself thrust into a life for which she has no preparation. The couple and their toddler daughter live in a stately mansion with a staff to meet their every need, but for Miranda even this luxury comes at a price: the loss of freedom.

The actress is also on board as producer. Entertainment One will finance the mini film while Mark Gordon Co. Will develop the series.

The project is in early stages since no writer or director has been attached yet.
