The annual monsoon trawling ban for 47 days along Kerala coast would start from June 14, Minister for Ports and Fisheries K Babu said here today.
Instructions would be given to fishing boats from other states to go out of Kerala coast, Babu said at a meeting held here to review the preparations for the trawling ban.
The ban would be effected along the Kerala coast up to 12 nautical miles from June 14 to July 31.

Ration food articles would be supplied free of cost to fishing boat workers and other labourers connected with the sector during the ban period, Babu said.
Monsoon being the spawning season for a large variety of fish, particularly shrimp, the annual trawling restriction was first introduced in Kerala in 1988 as a conservation measure.
Since then it has been a routine annual affair.
During the ban period, trawlers and mechanised boats are not allowed to enter the area demarcated by the government.
