Anoop Prakash of Madras Regimental Centre (MRC) today won the 21.1 km Coimbatore Marathon in the men's section, while R Vasanthamani bagged the top honours in the women's category.
Anoop, hailing from Idukki in Kerala, finished the distance in 01:05:22s, while Vasanthamani completed the race in 01.33:5s.
The fourth edition of the event, which is for the cause of rehabilitating cancer patients, has grown bigger and better with each passing year, Dr T Balaji, Managing Trustee of Coimbatore Cancer Foundation, the organisers, said.
The 10km run had over 4,000 plus participants and the 5km run witnessed an attenedance of over 7,500 participants, the organisers said.
The prize money for the 21.1 km run was Rs 25,000, 15,000 and 10,000 for the first, second and third place holders respectively, while in the 10km run it was Rs 15,000, Rs 10,000 and Rs 5,000.
