Another cop dragged on car bonnet

In the second such instance within a month, a traffic policeman was allegedly dragged on the bonnet of a car for 200 metres when he tried to stop the vehicle at a barricade in the industrial area of the city.

Police said the incident took place last night when constable Sandeep Kumar tried to stop the car that allegedly had tinted glasses.

However, the driver did not stop and hit constable Sandeep Kumar following which he landed on the bonnet, the police said.

The accused did not stop the car and kept driving for some 200 meters and also hit another person, a motorcyclist, who tried to chase the car, police said, adding the motorcyclist escaped unhurt.
 

The car driver Tanvinder Singh was arrested after a chase while two passengers, Gagandeep Singh and Jitender Singh, managed to flee, police said.

All three are residents of Sirhind in Fatehgarh Sahib in Punjab, police said.

The injured cop was admitted to a hospital where his condition is stated to be stable, police said.

This is the second such instance in the city

On August 10, a traffic police constable signalled a car at the a roundabout in the city to stop, after he saw the driver on the phone.

The accused, identified as Aftab Singh Gill, a resident of SAS Nagar, tried to flee but ended up dragging the cop, Davinder Singh, on the bonnet of the car for around a km.

Gill was later arrested. The incident was videographed by a passerby on his mobile and the post went viral online.
