The Special Task Force (STF) against the drug menace in the state will work as another wing of Punjab police like Vigilance and Intelligence, an official said Thursday.

A notification in this regard was issued, he said, adding that this move will strengthen its resources for enforcement of anti-drug measures.

Besides, it has also been decided to merge the Punjab State Narcotics Control Bureau with the STF, which was formed in 2017 after the Congress government came to power.

A few days ago, the Punjab government had appointed Punjab State Human Rights Commission DGP Mohammad Mustafa as STF chief after removing Additional Director General of Police Harpreet Singh Sidhu from this post.

Sidhu was later shifted to the Chief Minister's Office and was posted as special principal secretary to the Punjab chief minister.
