State Urban Development and Housing Minister Shanti Dhariwal asked senior officials to issue notices, initially, to the owners of non-residential constructions directing them to remove illegal encroachments in the nullah within a week.

He said the width of the nullah was determined 210 feet in the report prepared by Malivia National Institute and Technology (MNIT)-Jaipur in 2010 and this measurement will be the ground for the action.

"Jaipur Development Authority is uploading the report/map on its website so people can find out whether their construction lies in the nullah.

"If a person, within seven days of getting the notice, does not remove the construction, the government will demolish the encroachment and the cost will be recovered from him," the minister told reporters after the meeting.

He said names of those who are being served notices would be made public.

JDA has constituted seven teams headed by deputy commissioner rank officials and officials from police, electricity department to carry out the exercise, he said.

"The nullah will be made encroachment free. A meeting with MLAs and MPs is also planned on Monday to seek their cooperation in this matter," he said.

Dhariwal said non-residential encroachments will be removed followed by illegal residential construction.

However, he said, there was no plan of rehabilitation of those whose construction will be demolished.

The Amanishah nullah originates from the western slopes of Jaigarh hill, flows northwards in the upper reaches, turns south and south-west in its middle course and flows towards east with a broad semi-circle.

It is now dotted by illegal constructions and shrinking with the course of time following alleged negligence of the government.

Hearing a petition recently, the high court directed the government to clear encroachments from the area and submit report within three weeks.
