Anti-graft bill: Par panel sounds out parties, industry

A Parliament Committee today met public sector entities from the city, industry chambers and officials from Maharashtra government to seek their views on the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Bill, 2013 that seeks to punish bribe-givers and confiscate illicit gains from government employees.

"We are trying to take views of members and public on the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Bill, 2013," Rajya Sabha member Shantaram Naik, who is also the chairman of the Parliamentary standing committee on personnel, public grievances, and law & justice told reporters here.

The Bill was introduced in Rajya Sabha on August 19 and referred to the House panel on August 23 for examining. The panel has to submit its report within three months.
 

The committee met office-bearers of industry body like CII and Bombay Chambers of Commerce and also officials from Bank of Baroda, Shipping Corporation and Bharat Petroleum Corporation.

The committee also held discussion on the RTI (Amendment) Bill and Judicial Appointments Commission Bill 2013 with various political parties and other stake-holders.

Political parties such as the Congress, BJP, Shiv Sena, MNS, BSP, SP and others gave their inputs on the RTI Amendment Bill, he said.

Maharashtra chief secretary Jayantkumar Banthia, advocate general Darius Khambata, law secretary Vijay Achliya, members of the bar, senior advocates and NGOs also gave their views on the Judicial Appointments and RTI Bills, he added.
