The protesters, including children, from Idinthakarai in the district vowed to continue their agitation peacefully against the Indo-Russian venture.
The children reiterated their radiation fears, insisting that the fruition of the project would affect local farming and fishing activities.
Vijin, a native of Idinthakarai, told reporters here that there was no foreign funding behind their anti-nuclear agitation, as claimed by Centre, and "we are protesting with hard-earned money of our parents".
Other children also echoed similar views and requested the intervention of Jayalalithaa for scrapping the project.
The children also claimed they were questioned by police on their way to Chennai before being escorted into the city.
Xavier Ammal, another resident of Idinthakarai village, expressed hope that the Chief Minister took note of the children's pleas and acted accordingly. They will continue their protest till the project is scrapped, she said.
The children said they have written to US President Barack Obama's daughters Sasha and Malia, seeking support in closing down the nuclear plant, and will submit the letter at the US consular office here.
