The meeting, first of its kind in the two Naxal-hit districts, was presided by DGP Prakash Mishra and attended by senior officers from the state police, CRPF and BSF.
"We have reviewed the situation in Koraput and Malkangiri. Efforts are also on establish a better coordination
with the CRPF and BSF," Mishra told PTI adding that all steps were being taken to curb the LWE in this part of the state.
Besides superintendents of police (SPs) of five districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Nuapada and Kalahandi, Inspector General rank officers of CRPF and BSF participated in the meeting. Some former SPs of certain Maoist hit districts were also invited to share their ideas with the officers presently working in the field.
Besides holding talks with the district police officers, the DGP visited some BSF camps and enquired about their problems in the field. At least five battalions of BSF jawans were deployed in Koraput and Malkangiri districts.
"The meeting today resolved to expedite anti-Maoist operation in the region," a senior officer said adding the DGP encouraged the police rank and file by spending a night at Malkangiri district.
"We want to give a message to the naxals that they must abjure violence or face the consequence," he said.
Today's meeting in Koraput and Malkangiri assumed significance as Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today rushed to Delhi for holding discussion with the new home minister Sushil Kumar Shinde.
"I will meet the home minister and hold discussion on certain issues," Patnaik told reporters before leaving for the national capital.
