An anti-noise pollution activist was allegedly threatened by a group of unidentified persons Friday evening when she was monitoring noise-levels during a fair in suburban Mahim.

Sumaira Abdulali, the activist who is the founder of the Awaaz Foundation, said that policemen present at the spot came to her rescue.

However, the police should probe the incident further, Abdulali said in a letter to the Mumbai police commissioner.

Around 5 pm, when she was recording noise levels outside Mahim Police Station where a band was playing, some people "gheraoed and threatened and verbally attacked" her, she said.

Policemen at the spot escorted her to her car, she added.

Awaaz Foundation has filed several public interest litigations on the issue of noise pollution, resulting in some landmark orders.
