"The indefinite hunger strike will be broadened and strengthened on May 4 with the participation of hundreds of women from the neighbouring villages. We remain open to dialogue with the government officials and would entertain such efforts," People's Movement Against Nuclear Energy (PMANE), spearheading the protest, said in a statement.
It also demanded a written agreement with a "definite action plan and clear timeline."
PMANE, which on March 28 last withdrew a nine-day-long indefinite fast against the project, yesterday revived its protest at Idinthakarai near Kudankulam pressing a 11-point charter of demands, including setting up a national committee of experts to study the region around KNPP.
Citing the Central Information Commission (CIC)'s order, it said, the Safety Analysis Report and the Site Evaluation Report must be released to the public immediately.
Other demands include commissioning of a new and comprehensive Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report, hearing of the project-affected people, constitution of an independent national committee to study the issues of geology, hydrology, oceanography and seismology involved in KNPP.
It also pressed for conducting disaster management training and evacuation exercises within 30-km radius of the plant, sought copy of the Inter-Governmental Agreement (IGA) on liability signed between India and Russia and withdrawal of "false" cases against its members. PTI DSJ VS HKS
