An anti-social, allegedly involved in at least eight heinous crimes in Odisha's Ganjam district, was arrested by police following an encounter in Chanchadapalli-Barapalli jungle, police said today.

Shyam Sundara Gouda (22) of Lathi village, who was wanted by the police in several cases, sustained injury in both legs during the encounter yesterday. He was admitted at MKCG Medical College and Hospital here and his condition was stated to be out of danger.

At least three of his associates fled from the spot after hurling crude bombs and causing minor injuries to three police personnel, they said.

A country made pistol with three rounds of bullets, one motorcycle and three crude bombs were seized from Gouda, said SP (Ganjam) Ashish Singh.

He said four persons, including Gouda, had gathered in the area with the arms to commit a major crime when they were intercepted on a tip-off after which theexchange of fire took place.
