Anti-Taliban peace committee member shot dead in Pakistan

An anti-Taliban peace committee member was today shot dead by unidentified gunmen this northwestern city of Pakistan.

The peace committee member was killed in Tank district bordering South Waziristan Agency.

According to police, Sherpao Mehsud was on his way from Kot Azam to Tank when unknown attackers ambushed his vehicle, killing him on the spot.

Two of his associates also sustained injuries in the attack.

Police rushed to the spot and started investigation.

The injured were shifted to hospital.

The motive behind the brutal killing could not be immediately ascertained.

Peace committee members in the country's northwestern region have been targeted by militants numerous times in the past.
