Indicating of possible Maoist threat in the state, a West Bengal Minister today suggested for setting up anti-violence and anti-terror committee under his constituency to avert any subversive activities by the Maoists to destabilise.

"I have specific information that the Maoists are again trying to vitiate atmosphere in West Bengal to disturb peace in the state," state's Transport Minister Madan Mitra said adding "soon I shall launch campaign against terror and violence in my constituency to make people aware of the possible threat."

Mitra also said that he had asked the Detective Department of the city police and the CID to look into the matter and initiate appropriate action to curb the menace.

"Such a committee will be formed at Belghoria (in northern fringes of city) by the people to keep a vigil against violence, terror or any subversive activities by the Maoists," Mitra said.

Asked about information gathered by the minister regarding possible threat by the Maoists, state Home Secretary Basudeb Banerjee, however, declined to make any comment.

"The Maoists are again active in North 24-Parganas district covering areas like Belghoria, Dum Dum, Barasat, Madhyamgram and Duttapukur, besides Kamduni which drew attention of the entire country following a gruesome incident of rape and murder of a college girl recently," Mitra said.

"Maoists or similar suspicious elements are staying at Belghoria and its adjacent places as tenants to set up their network for attack in different areas in the state. My request to local people is to inquire properly before renting out their premises to strangers," Mitra said.

"I myself will visit my constituency to inquire about such cases and caution people accordingly," Mitra said.
