The Aizawl District and Sessions court today rejected the anticipatory bail pleas of Chief executive member of Lai Autonomous District Council (LADC) V Zirsanga and other four accused in a graft case.

The Judge, Lucy Lalrinthari, rejected the anticipatory bail plea after Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials said the investigation against the accused was hampered as many witnesses were turning hostile due to the accused being free to tamper evidence and influence crucial witnesses.

Zirsanga and the four persons were allegedly involved in the teacher recruitment scam involving Rs 3.19 crore and were being investigated by the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB).

ACB sleuths said Zirsanga, then executive member for education in the LADC, received a bribe of Rs 21 lakh and 41 new teachers were recruited fraudulently.

The accused included the District Education Officer (DEO), a cashier and two teachers, they said.

B Lalramenga, counsel for the accused, said they would approach the Gauhati High Court seeking anticipatory bail.
