"Star Trek" star Anton Yelchin's parents have filed a wrongful death lawsuit against bosses at Fiat-Chrysler.

The 27-year-old actor was killed in a freak car accident in June, when he was pinned between a brick pillar and his vehicle after it rolled backwards down the steep driveway of his home in the San Fernando Valley, California.

Victor and Irina Yelchin have sued executives at the car company, alleging the gear selector in the actor's Jeep Grand Cherokee was defective, reported Variety.

"Anton Yelchin was crushed and lingered alive for some time, trapped and suffocating until his death," the lawsuit read.

"Anton was our only son and was a remarkable human being. It is wrong, it is against nature when parents bury (their) own child," Victor said at a press conference.

Following the accident, Fiat Chrysler chiefs launched an investigation into Anton's incident, while they were also hit with a class action lawsuit from fellow car owners days after the actor's accident.

The Yelchins' attorney, Gary A Dordick, revealed a recall letter for the vehicle was sent to the actor a month before his death and a week after he was killed.

"The safety recall was way too little and way too late. We hope this lawsuit will teach them a lesson," Dordick said.

Victor and Irina are seeking unspecified damages. Bosses at the car company would not comment on the lawsuit because they had not yet been served.
