Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) described former state Chief Minister A R Antulay, who passed away here this morning, as a tall leader who dedicated his entire life to public service.

Stating that the veteran leader's death was a great loss to the party, MPCC president Manikrao Thakre said Antulay was sensitive to the issues of poor, destitute and backward sections and strived to ensure their rightful place in the society.

"He initiated several schemes for their welfare which are being implemented even today," he said.

Thakre said Antulay was a staunch Indira Gandhi loyalist and a committed Congress party worker.

"His passing away has created a vacuum and loss which will be difficult to fill," he said.

NCP president Sunil Tatkare described Antulay as a stalwart who worked for all-round development of the state.
