Hamirpur MP Anurag Thakur today met Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj in New Delhi and requested her for setting up a regional passport office in his constituency.
The BJP leader told PTI that his meeting with Swaraj was "fruitful" and she has assured she would consider the matter "sympathetically".
"There is a regional passport office in Shimla. However, with time, the workload has increased exponentially in that office. The distance too is a deterrent for those living far away from Shimla," said Thakur, adding that the name of Hamirpur has been proposed as it is centrally located.
He said a number of people from his constituency, particularly Una and Hamirpur, travel to countries in the Persian Gulf and elsewhere in search of employment and a regional passport office at Hamirpur will make the process of applying for passports easier for them.
