The CPI (ML-Liberation) today said any reconciliation in Sri Lanka could not proceed on the basis of subjugation of Tamils and demanded a probe into the "genocidal war campaign" in the island nation.

"Reconciliation in Sri Lanka cannot proceed on the basis of subjugation of the Sri Lankan Tamil community," said a resolution passed by the CPI (ML-Liberation's) 9th Congress here.

"The international community must make sure that the ghastly war crimes against the Tamils are probed in full and exemplary punishment is awarded to the guilty," said the resolution, a copy of which was released to the media.

The resolution decried the "ghastly crimes" against Sri Lankan Tamils and termed it as "gross human rights violations".

In another resolution, the party condemned the "illegal" American-backed occupation of Palestine by Israel and the "endless war crimes" allegedly committed by Israel on the Palestinians.

The party Congress expressed solidarity with several governments in Latin America like Venezuela, Bolivia and Ecuador, "which are opposing the neo-liberal policies and alleged domination by America over their foreign and economic policies".

"The overall assertion of the Latin American people and the left (movement) continues to gather momentum," the party Congress said while expressing solidarity with the ongoing efforts in Venezuela to defend Hugo Chavez's legacy against America's alleged attempts to "destabilise" it.

The party Congress also demanded punishment for the culprits of war crimes in Bangladesh.
