Press Trust of India Hyderabad
Andhra Pradesh Chief Secretary Prasanna Kumar Mohanty today directed heads of various departments to immediately initiate work related to division of the state, including distribution of government employees among the two states.

The HoDs told the Chief Secretary that the process would take a minimum of two months and they wanted three months to complete the task in a foolproof manner.

The Chief Secretary asked the officials to constitute eight committees to oversee and complete the process at the earliest.

Mohanty would attend a meeting convened by Union Home Ministry to discuss the division-related issues in New Delhi tomorrow.

Distribution of about 50,000 government employees among the two states, public assets and liabilities are the major issues that are now being looked into before the division actually takes place with the notification of an appointed date.

Interestingly, the IAS officers reportedly asked the Chief Secretary to make a plea with the Centre for giving "choice" to individual officers for selecting the state cadre of their liking.

"If roaster or other system is followed in cadre allocation, we may land up in unwanted places," some senior bureaucrats reportedly apprehended.

The Chief Secretary said that the Centre might follow the procedure adopted in other states when they were divided.
