Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu will on April 25 inaugurate the Rs 1,000-crore first phase manufacturing unit of confectionery major Cadbury at Sri City Special Economic Zone in Chittoor district.

Representatives of Mondelez International, led by country head Venkatesam Chandramouli, met the chief minister here today, a statement said.

The plant would produce famous Cadbury brands like Dairy Milk, Celebrations, Silk, Perk, Five Star, Gems, Bournville and Bournvita.

Coming up on a 134-acre site at Sri City SEZ, the unit would be expanded in four phases to have a manufacturing capacity of 2.5 lakh tonnes by 2020, Mondelez representatives told the chief minister.

Cadbury would provide direct employment to 1,600 people, while hundreds of indirect jobs would also be created.

The plant will provide immense scope for increased cultivation of cocoa in the state, Naidu said and asked the officials to encourage cocoa cultivation as an inter-crop in coconut and oil-palm plantations.

Cocoa is currently produced in over 10,000 acres in East and West Godavari districts.
