The state Congress chief earlier had talks with Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy.

State Law Minister E Pratap Reddy, who hails from Kurnool district, dismissed reports that former legislator Gangula Pratap Reddy was not keen on contesting from Allagadda in the district.

Gangula would be party's candidate, the minister said.

The bypolls to 16 of the 18 assembly seats were necessitated as the sitting Congress MLAs switched loyalty to Kadapa MP, Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, and voted against Congress government during a floor test in December, while the sitting member quit in support of Jagan in another place.

Actor-turned-politician Chiranjeevi resigned as MLA following his election to Rajya Sabha, while the bye-election to Nellore Lok Sabha seat was necessitated as the sitting Congress MP quitting in support of Jagan.

By-polls will be held on June 12.

While the disqualified MLAs are seeking re-election on the tickets of YSR Congress of Jagan, main opposition Telugu Desam has also finalised its candidates.
