AP govt promotes 5 IPS officers to DGP rank

Andhra Pradesh government today promoted five Indian Police Service (IPS) officers to the rank of Director General of Police.

M Malakondaiah of 1985 batch has been promoted to the rank of DGP and retained as Director General of Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB).

Varun Sindhu Kul Kaumudi of the 1986 batch, currently on deputation to the National Investigation Agency (NIA), has been granted proforma promotion.

Ram Prawesh Thakur of the same batch has been promoted and re-designated as Director General of Police (Law and Order).

Damodar Goutam Sawang has been promoted and retained as Commissioner of Police, Vijayawada city.

Vinay Ranjan Ray has been promoted and retained as Director General of Police (Prisons), according to an order issued by Chief Secretary Satya Prakash Tucker.
 

With the latest round of promotions, the number of DGP-rank IPS officers in Andhra Pradesh cadre rose to nine.

Of the nine, Director General of Police (Head of Police Force) J V Ramudu is slated to retire from service at the end of this month.

Ramudu had, in fact, superannuated in July 2014 itself but got a two-year fixed tenure as DGP (HoPF), thanks to a legislation by the state government.
