Telugu Desam Party President N Chandrababu Naidu today said the Andhra Pradesh Government should file a review petition with regard to the Supreme Court verdict on the Babhali barrage construction.

The apex court today declined the plea of Andhra Pradesh Government against the construction of Babhali barrage by Maharashtra in Nanded district for utilising the water of Godavari river.

Naidu said the State Government should file a review petition in the Supreme Court against the verdict. The former Chief Minister said construction of the irrigation project would be a great loss to the farmers of the the state.

He attributed the Supreme Court judgement against Andhra Pradesh to the "inept" handling of the case by the State's Congress Government.

"Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy failed to engage an efficient lawyer and present our arguments strongly before the court," the Leader of Opposition said.

Naidu was talking to reporters at Mopidevi village in Krishna district during his 'Vastaunna Mee Kosam' padayatra.

In its ruling, the apex court said, "On the basis of facts which have come on record, a case of substantial injury of a serious magnitude and high equity that moves the conscience of the court has not been made out by Andhra Pradesh justifying grant of injunction.

"In light of the above, we hold that Andhra Pradesh is not entitled to the reliefs, as prayed for, in the suit," a bench of Justices R M Lodha, T S Thakur and A R Dave said.
